What Is The ECO4 Grant Scheme For Disabled People?

ECO4 is a grant scheme that’s designed to help a range of people get their energy under control by installing energy efficient systems at home – one of which is a solar panel installation. It doesn’t just focus on people with disabilities, but it’s likely that you will qualify if you’re disabled and are considered low-income (your household earns less than £31,000 per year, total).

This grant will, in most cases, cover the entire cost of the installation so long as it’s below £10,000. If the cost is higher because you need a larger solar array at home, then you will need to pay the remainder.

ECO4 Eligibility Criteria For Disabled People

The full list of eligibility criteria is below. To qualify, you’ll need to meet one of these criteria first:

  • You’re in receipt of government benefits OR someone in your household/a tenant is (see below)
  • You have an inefficient heating system with a D-G energy efficiency rating
  • You receive child benefit AND your household income falls below a specific threshold (see below)

If you do, then you may be eligible for the grant.

Qualifying Benefits For ECO4

To help clear up which government benefits help you qualify for the ECO4 scheme, here is a full list:

  • Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-Related Employment & Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Pension Credit Guarantee
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Child Tax Credits
  • Universal Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Pension Credit Savings

You might notice that there aren’t any disability-specific benefits listed, and that’s because with the update from ECO3 to ECO4 focus moved towards low income households, meaning a lot of the benefits were updated to means tested benefits to more accurately reflect the benefits that people on low incomes receive most often.

Child Benefit Household Income Thresholds

The income single-parent and

two-parent households must fall below to receive ECO4 support whilst receiving child benefit for 1 to 4+ children is shown below. If your total household income falls below the following amounts, then you may qualify for the ECO4 grant scheme:

Single-Parent Households:

  • 1 child: £19,800
  • 2 children: £24,600
  • 3 children: £29,400
  • 4+ children: £34,200

Two-Parent Households:

  • 1 child: £27,300
  • 2 children: £32,100
  • 3 children: £36,900
  • 4+ children: £41,700
child benefit household income thresholds

What If I Don’t Qualify For ECO4?

LA Flex (Local Authority Flexible Eligibility) Scheme is part of the ECO4 scheme, but it allows local authorities or councils to make their own decisions about which households need support – and you could qualify.

With a household income below £31,000, and a home energy efficiency rating of E, F, or G, you might still qualify.

Every council and local authority will treat LA Flex a little differently, so contact us today if you need further guidance.
