How Can A Free Boiler Replacement For Disabled People Help Me?

Free boiler upgrades and replacements for people with disabilities are designed to help those living in energy-inefficient homes and who are on the lowest incomes. The government-backed schemes and grants help in multiple ways:

  • They help you live in a more comfortable, energy-efficient home that costs less to run each month thanks to reduced energy bills
  • They help the government move towards their target of Net Zero by 2050 much quicker because the least energy-efficient homes in the country are being improved, greatly reducing carbon emissions

The following grants and schemes are most relevant to those looking for free boiler replacement for disabled individuals:

  • ECO4
  • LA Flex

Why Should I Get A New Boiler?

There are plenty of reasons why getting a new boiler could benefit you.

As an individual with disabilities, as with everyone, it’s important to keep a home that’s comfortable and warm. And old boilers are known for their inefficiency and inability to keep homes at a consistent, comfortable temperature.

And that’s before you even consider the higher than average heating bills that come along with old boilers…

However, new boilers:

  • Are more compact in size
  • More energy efficient
  • Produce less carbon emissions
  • Help reduce your energy bills
  • Make a more comfortable home for you
  • AND there are boiler grants and schemes out there that can help cover all or part of the cost…

So why not see how we can help you get the new boiler you deserve today?

How Can Eco Grants Help Me?

Eco Grants by ZOA Energy Solutions supports customers with finding the funding for the eco home improvements they’re entitled to. We work with everybody to help them find the right free boiler scheme or grant, and one area we specialise in is helping get free boiler replacements for disabled individuals.

The grants and schemes we’ll talk about today are all designed to help individuals who need them – those on the lowest incomes and potentially at risk of fuel poverty, plus those  living in homes that are energy inefficient. If this applies to you and you have a disability for which you receive a benefit from the government, then you’ll likely qualify for one of the schemes discussed today.

The point is, free boiler replacement for disabled people is an option you ought to explore, because it’ll mean a much more comfortable and cheaper to run home for you.

What Is ECO4 For Disabled People?

So long as you have an old, energy-inefficient boiler, are a homeowner or a private tenant (council tenants aren’t included here), are considered a low-income household, and receive a government benefit (some of which are likely to apply to people with disabilities) or meet other qualifying criteria, then you’ll likely be eligible for support for a replacement boiler under ECO4.

ECO funding comes from the main energy companies who are obligated by the government to contribute towards helping households improve their energy efficiency and make their energy bills more affordable. ECO’s aim is to help the lowest income households bring down heating demand and their carbon footprint, and one way to do this is with an A-rated combi boiler.

It’s important to remember that the ECO4 scheme won’t cover the full cost of a boiler replacement in all cases. You’ll either qualify for full funding, partial, or none at all, depending on your eligibility. The fastest way to check is by filling out a quick form with us today, but you can also read the full list of eligibility criteria below.

ECO4 Eligibility Criteria For Disabled Individuals

For anybody to qualify for ECO4 funding, they will need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be in receipt of government benefits OR someone in your household or a tenant is (a list of applicable government benefits can be found below)
  • Have an inefficient heating system with a D-G energy efficiency rating
  • Be in receipt of child benefits AND have a household income below a specific threshold

Eligible Government Benefits

  • Universal Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-Related Employment & Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Pension Credit Guarantee
  • Pension Credit Savings
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Child Tax Credits

You’ll notice that disability-focused benefits such as Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and Severe Disability Allowance aren’t included on the list. This is because ECO4 focuses more on household income and energy efficiency than specific benefits. Whereas before, a PIP free boiler was certainly possible under ECO3, ECO4 has slightly different criteria.

However, it’s highly likely that if you’re in receipt of disability-focussed benefits, then you’ll likely still fall below the income threshold and may even receive an additional qualifying benefit, such as Universal Credit, for example.

If you’re unsure if you qualify, contact Eco Grants today, and with our years of experience helping people just like you, we’ll be able to offer more specialised advice.

What Is LA Flex For Disabled People?

Even if you don’t qualify for boiler installation support under ECO4, the Local Authority Flexible Eligibility Scheme (LA Flex) could change that. LA Flex offers similar support to ECO4, so a modern boiler replacement is certainly possible here, but again, it may be partially or fully funded, depending on what you’re entitled to.

The main difference between LA Flex and ECO4 is the flexibility involved. Under LA Flex, local authorities and councils are able to stretch the eligibility criteria of ECO4 to cover more households that need support. And whilst eligibility is more flexible, it’s still the aim of LA Flex to support the most vulnerable households. And that could include you…

LA Flex Eligibility Criteria For Disabled People

So long as you:

  • Live in a home with an energy efficiency rating of E-G
  • Have an annual household income of less than £31,000
  • Are a homeowner or private tenant

And meet two of the following criteria, then you’ll likely qualify for free boiler replacement for disabled individuals:

  • Have health problems that may be worsened by living in an energy inefficient home, such as cardiovascular problems, mobility issues, respiratory issues, or immune-suppressed conditions (may also relate to your disability)
  • House in LSOA 1-3 Area (recognised as an area of deprivation in the UK)
  • Householder receives Council Tax rebates due to low income
  • Householder is considered vulnerable to living in a cold home according to nationally recognised NICE guidance
  • You have been referred to LA Flex by the Local Authority Delivery (LAD) Scheme due to being vulnerable and in a low income household
  • Members of the household are in receipt of free school meals
  • Citizens Advice, your energy supplier, or your mortgage lender has advised you to seek help from government schemes due to sustained debt on mortgage payments or utility bills

Free Boiler Replacement For Disabled Individuals FAQs:

Yes, although this will depend on meeting the qualifying criteria for the various schemes and grants. If you do, you may be entitled to a free boiler. You might also only receive partial funding. Contact Eco Grants today to see if you qualify.

No. A PIP-free boiler isn’t possible under ECO4. It was under ECO3, but ECO4 changed focus away from specific benefits towards household income and energy efficiency performance in the home. With that said, if you receive PIP, you might also receive another qualifying benefit such as Universal Credit. If you receive PIP, it’s still worth checking with us today to see if you’re eligible for boiler replacement support.

Absolutely! With LA Flex and ECO4, the focus is more on household income thresholds rather than benefits, so you could still qualify. Check with us today.
