What Is Included In EON’s Insulation Grant?

In order to help UK residents cut their energy bills and warm their homes, as well as help the government reach its net zero carbon goal by 2050, the government has launched its Great British Insulation Scheme and ECO4 initiative. The schemes help homeowners, especially those that are classed as vulnerable or low-income, make energy efficient improvements to their homes.

As part of its green homes funding scheme, EON is offering a variety of different energy efficient methods to help you reduce your energy bills.

Insulation Methods To Keep Heat In:

If you are looking for ways to improve the way that your home retains the heat that you are spending your hard earned money on, then one of the following insulation methods may be key to your money saving goals:

External wall insulation

Primarily benefiting homes built before the 1920s, external wall insulation involves the installation of two additional layers to the outside of your home. The first provides insulation, while the second provides weather protection and a decorative finish.

Cavity wall insulation

During cavity wall insulation, an insulation material is injected into the gap between the inner and outer wall of your property to help retain heat and stop the circulation of air.

Non-UPVC door upgrades

By upgrading the draught-proofing capabilities of your door, you can reduce the cold air coming into your home as well as retain heat.

Under floor insulation

In homes where your floorboards are suspended, insulation can be added into the gap to retain heat and minimise draughts.

Single glazed window replacement

If your home still features single glazed windows then upgrading them to either double or triple glazed will ensure that heat is retained in your home, while also reducing draughts near your windows.

Methods To Heat Your Home More Efficiently:

Alternatively, you may be hoping to find new ways to utilise technology to better manage your heating. Options including air source heat pumps, which are more environmentally friendly and cheaper run compared to conventional gas boilers, or smart heating control, can provide you alternative methods to reduce your energy bills.

An air source heat pump (ASHP) works by absorbing heat from the outside air, which can then heat your home and hot water. Located 300mm away from your home, ASHPs are seen as a potential long-term replacement for gas boilers.

Smart heating controls

Have you ever pre-set your heating to come before you get home from work, just for your plans to change? Installing a smart heating control system ensures that this will never happen again. You will be able to control your heating remotely using either your smartphone, computer or tablet.

How Does 0% VAT On Insulation Help Me?

The UK government has applied 0% VAT on all Energy Saving Materials in the UK – and this applies to cavity wall insulation, too. First introduced in April 2022, 0% VAT on insulation is set to last until the end of March 2027.

This is automatically applied on any qualifying purchase, so you don’t have to apply through a scheme or anything – you just get to enjoy cheaper cavity wall insulation, which will help stretch those government grants even further.
