What Grants Are Available?

Grant funding helps improve access to home energy improvements by fully covering the cost of installations of measures such as solar panels, heat pumps, boilers and insulation. The funding is available as part of a drive to reduce household energy consumption and impact on bills and carbon emissions.

There are several different funding opportunities available so it is possible a household could qualify for an insulation grant as well as one to help with the cost of installing solar panels. All funding is aimed at improving the energy efficiency of homes and boosting EPC rating.

Funding and eligibility criteria can be a little difficult to understand, but we can make it easier for you by handling all that. From when you first make an enquiry, we’ll examine your circumstances and help determine your eligibility for the various grants. We’ll then be able to follow up with your installation and aftercare, acting as your one-stop shop for home eco grants and improvements.

Get the energy grants you’re entitled to

Many households fail to claim the grants they are entitled to because they mistakenly believe that they are only available to those who receive government benefits. The good news is, you do not always have to be in receipt of benefits to qualify for a grant.

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, Boiler Upgrade Scheme, and Great British Insulation Scheme are just some of the funding avenues available. All are aimed at helping households reduce carbon emissions and assist them with the cost of heating their homes.

We recently had a brand new boiler installed in our house, and just wanted to pass on our experience with others. The team within this company was fantastic. Very professional and undisruptive. We could just go on with our day while they worked. Getting a boiler installed can be a stressful experience, yet the team here made it very comfortable. I just want to say thank you to everyone at ZOA Energy Solutions for making it a pleasant experience.

What can I say, such a great bunch. I had my loft insulated, new boiler, fan in the bathroom and trickle vents in my windows. They were very professional, polite, clean and tidy, well manner and worked great as a team. Meryam played her part as well. If she couldn’t answer my call she always got back to me ASAP. No waiting days or making endless calls. I would highly recommend this company. Great work guys and thank you very much.

Fantastic experience. Fitted us a new boiler and insulated the loft. Came with a very knowledgeable team and worked hard over two days to get it all finished. Left no mess and everything was put back in the right places. Very polite and friendly and would recommend them to anyone.

Which energy improvement measures can I receive?

Home Insulation

There’s no greater cost-effective way of reducing the heat lost from your home and reducing your energy bills than insulation. Free home insulation grants are available for the various types of insulation including cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation, loft insulation, and underfloor insulation.

Solar Panels

While solar can be expensive to install in the first place, a free solar grant can help cover a significant chunk of the cost. As a low-carbon eco-friendly option, solar panels can reduce your dependence on the grid and significantly reduce your electricity bills. The electricity your system generates can be used, stored in a solar battery, or exported to the grid to receive money from the energy companies as part of the Smart Export Guarantee.

Heat Pumps

Funding could help you get an alternative heating system for your home in the form of a heat pump. Grants of up to £5,000 are available for the cost of an air source heat pump and £6,000 is available for those looking to install a ground source heat pump. Whichever option is suitable will bring you noticeable bill savings in the long-term.

New Eco boiler

Where some of the alternative heating systems are not suitable, households could still qualify for a grant from the Free Boiler Scheme to help them switch from their old inefficient heating system to a new A-rated boiler. This option is not only available to some households looking to upgrade their existing boiler but also to households looking to have a boiler and central heating for the first time.

Grant funding is available for a range of measures including insulation, solar panels (and batteries), heat pumps and new boilers. The grant funding is free and does not have to be repaid. The grants are intended to help households reduce their energy consumption to help will bills and reduce carbon footprints.

There are several schemes that offer grant assistance to households to boost the energy efficiency of their homes. ECO4, LA Flex, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and the Great British Insulation Scheme are just some of the avenue through which funding could be secured for home eco measures

You can apply for a grant if you live in a property that is expensive to heat, or if you or somebody living with you are vulnerable to cold. Funding could be available if you are considered a vulnerable household and receive at least one of the following benefits:

  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment & Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income Support (IS)
  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Working Tax Credit (WTC)
  • Child Tax Credits (CTC)
  • Universal Credit (UC)
  • Housing Benefit (new eligible benefit under ECO4)
  • Pension Credit Savings Credit (new eligible benefit under ECO4)

Additionally, low income households could also be eligible, as can those whose homes have poor energy efficiency EPC ratings. This is a change from previous schemes where having to be in receipt of government benefits meant that many households were excluded from funding.

Grants will not always cover the full cost of installation, so in some instances you may be expected to make a contribution. In the case of lower cost measures such as loft insulation and some boilers, it is likely the grant will cover the cost of the installation. Other measures such as solar PV systems and heat pumps are expensive to install and the grant may only partly cover the costs.

Even if you do not qualify for a grant covering the full cost, it is still worth applying as the grant can make a significant dent in the costs of installation, plus we may also be able to offer you generous discounts.
